Hello Mighty Readers!
Mr. B here. I am writing to you from San Diego, California. I am sad to say that my father-in-law (Amy's dad) passed away from old age (he was 89 years old!), so we came to be with family for a week. We are all sad, but we are happy to be together and happy to think about how much Amy's dad, Wally, brought to all of us during his life.
We will be flying back on Tuesday night, so I'm sorry, but I won't be able to host our regular Tuesday book club this week. I wonder if people are available on Wednesday, Thursday, or Friday afternoon (4:20 p.m. and 5:00 p.m.)? If not, we can maybe look to the following week to add a book club meeting.
Now for my questions....
River Rafters (you guys who read Alvin Ho and Marty McGuire):
I will give a Tootsie Pop to the first kid who answers this questions correctly:
Some place deep in this book, Alvin Ho makes a list of directions for how to pitch a tent. Find the list. What is step # 15?
Mountaineers (you guys have read My Dog the Dinosaur) this week:
I will give a Tootsie Pop to the first Mountaineer who answers one of the following questions:
1) What did you like most about My Dog the Dinosaur ? ...... or.....
2) Write the name of all the books you have read since our last meeting!
Can't wait to hear from you.

Hi Mr.Bolger
I'm gonna answer your question so i can get a tootsie pop. Step # 15 in Alvin Ho is "Dig hard and fast because your kids are crying that they'd rather die than use a pit toliet and Anibelly is walking off with some of the tent stuff and doing her own thing."
im on chapter 9 and i like it better then Alvin Ho and clementine. Marty Mcguire is my favorie.
love carlie!!!!!!
Carlie Roy, you are the Tootsie-Pop winner! You were the first to be 100% corrrrrrrect in you answer. Congratulations.

PS: Stay tuned, everyone, for more Tootsie-Pop questions!
Here is the next Tootsie Pop question:
At the end of Marty McGuire, Annie and Veronica join Marty for a hike in the woods to look for crayfish and pretend they are saving chimpanzees.
On the last page of the book, Marty says, "I guess I can improvise a little too..." Why does she say that? What does she mean? (hint: look on page 58 if you forget what it means to improvise or be spontaneous.)

ps: anyone who writes a thoughtful comment to answer this question earns a Tootsie Pop.
Hi Mr. B.,
I am reading Alvin Ho. I like the part when Alvin goes in the time machine because it is funny when he yells and nothing comes out. Once in a while I get scared in the dark, so I know what Alvin means when he freaks out in the dark. I also have another connection about all the other boys playing camping in the trees( but I wasn't naked :-) ). My mommy had to rescue me because it is easier to go up than come down.
From Evan
Hi Evan! Thanks for your post. I know what you mean -- I remember being afraid of the dark down in my moldy old cellar when I was a kid, too. I also remember climbing my favorite tree. It was next to my barn, and I remember going up high for the first time when I was about seven. I couldn't believe how far I could see. It was a little scary and exciting too. I was proud that my mom had given me permission to do it and proud that I was doing something cool all by myself. I wonder if you have a favorite tree. Does anyone else have a favorite tree or a favorite tree-climbing memory?
Thanks again for sharing your thoughts, Evan.
